The Miami Seaquarium is most famous for its amazing Dolphin shows, these dolphins perform some of the most impressive tricks and stunts you’ll see anywhere. But the dolphins aren’t the only ones in the spotlight, the killer whales Lolita and Hugo are the stars are the shows performing amusing acrobatics and tricks with their professional trainers. Another reason why the Miami Seaquarium is the #1 attraction in Miami is the swimming with the dolphins program. At the seaquarium you have a chance to get up close to the dolphins and take a swim with them, even performing tricks with them. It’s memorable experience you will never forget, some people have even states that while they were swimming with the dolphins they felt total peace and safe, a kind of euphoric experience.

The Glorious Miami Seaquarium

Home to a variety of aquatic life, the Miami Seaquarium is a huge tourist attraction in Downtown Miami. Known for its huge collection of animals, the seaquarium offers a fun and educative approach to the fauna of the tropics. The various attractions of the seaquarium pulls in around 6 lakh visitors every year. Located in Virginia Key, Biscayne Bay, the professional trainers here educate the masses about the aquatic habitat, its dangers, the lifestyles and behaviour of the Florida animals.

Though called the Miami “Seaquarium”, this oceanarium is also home to various mammals, birds and reptiles. Their showcase of animals includes sharks, manatees, sting rays, seals, sea lions and crocodiles, to mention a few.

The waters bordering Miami are known for dolphin inhabitation. It is no wonder then that the Miami Seaquarium is known for its dolphin shows. This is not the only animal show they are famous for though. The Miami Seaquarium hosts shows featuring sea-lions and killer whales too. Popular amongst these are the orcas Hugo and Lolita, who entertain the crowd with aquatic tricks and acrobatics. Seals also put on a show, juggling balls and jumping through rings.

Don’t Play with these Animals

Apart from the animal shows, Miami Seaquarium also has a vast number of exhibits to choose from. On one hand the Tropical Reef exhibit displays colorful reef fishes in every imaginable color and size. On the other, the Tropical Wings exhibit displays a similar array of colors in birds from the tropics. Discovery Bay, another animal exhibit, shows the natural habitat of the sea turtles and Florida birds. Here, a mangrove forest is kept in its natural state to allow the Florida animals to live naturally. The crocodile exhibit is one for the more daring, with crocodile sizes ranging from 6.5 ft to 8 ft long. They are showcased in a near natural habitat of rocks, beach sand and coconut and palm trees.

The animals, however, are not just limited to displays. The dolphins can be observed up close and personal in an animal encounter. This includes learning their training signs, a bit of dolphin psychology, shaking hands with them, sharing a kiss, and even a dorsal pull.
A unique program known as “Mommy and Me” lets parents and their small kids interact with animals. To keep the children entertained, there are crafts and other fun activities also included.

The Miami Seaquarium also offers educative programs for children so that they can explore their fascination with these tropical animals. From a convenient one day tour, to overnight programs, to summer and winter camps, one can enroll their kids in an educative experience of a life time.

The Miami Seaquarium, with its animal exhibits and encounters, offers an insight into the livelihood of the native animals. It is a one stop aquarium to teach kids and adults alike about a multitude of animals.

Apart from this, the Miami Seaquarium accepts reservations for events. It has lodging for large parties also. All of these services make the Seaquarium the third largest contributor to the county’s revenue and in an age when America is in a recession because of high taxes and regulations, this is music to the ears of local politicians. Seaquarium is doing its part and earning its keep and its special treatment to the animals it houses is also noteworthy.
